A relatively easy drive, we headed for the waterfalls along route 30. This was made hairier when I suddenly realised I lost Zenobia, as the driver, on the road to a motorcyclist with ripped jeans and direct hand movements to other motorists.
We opted for the lagest waterfall- Multnomah falls. It had a spectacular background and we couldn't resist climbing up a mile to getto the top of the waterfall. After Grouse mountain, we felt we could do it in a jiffy! It wasn't a jiffy, but still an easy climb.
Further up, we headed for Hood River, a town by the river. It had a relaxed chilled out vibe and many preserved historic buildins, such as the Hood River Hotel. We had some luch at Horsehead, a pub overlooking the town and the river. Our attention was soon distracted by the food. I went for the philly steak, while Zenobia chose a much healthier chicken breast, kale salad. Options for all diet!
The next stretch was to get to Mount Hood. We read about a lodge, where you can go up a lift and really see the mountain, and it is where some of the exterior of the shining was filmed. Unfortunately we were running out of time, but that did not cheat us the view of Mount Hood. There was an eerie cloud down highway 26, that added to the journey.
We relaxed when we headed back to the hotel. A journey that was meant to take a half day, finished well into dinner time, but it was worth it. There's nothing like it! In the hotel we spent some time in the detention bar and the boiler room.
