The day started inauspiciously, again running late and having to get to San Francisco for a certain time, cos we had a friend to meet and a car to return. We also wanted to see the Redwood forest. After a few false starts, where we weren't sure where to g for Avenue of the Giants, and involving going up and down the same highway, we got underway.
Avenue of Giants is the scenic route parallel to highway 101, lined with massive, imposing redwood trees. It adds time to the journey, but worth it. The majestic trees certainly made Zenobia's day. She was jumping, running and climbing to catch every angle of the trees.
We also wanted to go through the drive-thru tree. There were several options, but as we opted for the Avenue of the Giants, we went to the Shrine drive thru tree. We had some ides of where it was from the map and as we drove on we saw a sign to Shrine drive thru-tree and gift shop. We dismissed it as a scam for the gift shop and drove past. After half an hour of driving, we realised that we went too far.
The drive thru was actually a little underwhelming, and we paid $6 for the experience.
We moved into our apartment in Mission district- a lively place, but full of drug addicts round the corner. Again, not threatening, but present.
We met up with Grace, who came up from SoCal region to party with us. She found a great restaurant called House by Grant and Broadway- an asian fusion restaurant. We had wasabi noodles, with steak, sea bass and noodles, and cod with sushi. Very subtle flavours.
We were a bit stuck for a night out after, but in the area was City lights bookshop- an amazing bookshop with an incredible range of books. Next door to it is Vesvuvio- a bar with a very beat vibe. As we needed more upbeat flavour, we headed for W, a hotel with a club. There happened to be a persian birthday party, and it was definitely Zenobia's ambience, as her hips never stopped swaying!
