Day 1 was spent outside Vancouver and without Zen. It began with brunch in Gastown, a trendy, hip part of town. Our search ended quickly, but there was a long wait to get to our table. Though lovely, the staff did run at their own pace.

Although the food more than made up for it...

I had the dirty breakfast, which consisted of shredded duck, hash browns and maple syrup baked beans.

Fed and watered, we headed up Highway 1/ Route 99 towards Whistler Mountain. We stopped at a familiar site (Breaking Dawn was filmed here). The roads are really easy to drive down and well maintained. Everything was easy to find, even lookout points for the view along the way.

Stopped off at Squamish town centre for a snack and found Zephyr Cafe. Squamish town was dead on Sunday but the cafe had some wonderful food and coffees, including chilli mocha

Our next stop was Alice Lake, where we followed the trail round four lakes. Quite a workout!! Word to the wise- there are plenty of picnic spots and very few points to get food, so go prepared!
