We went back to Tacoma, on our way to Portland, and met another new friend for coffee and food. It's a small town, with some quaint shops and cinema theatres. We learnt new things about US and UK and had some great laughs.
On our way we visited the Museum of glass in Tacoma, where artist David Chihuly hailed from. There is a museum of his works by the Space needle, but as we were passing, and were told it had some great photo opportunity. It has many works by many other artists, the only Chihuly we saw were on the bridge.
The drive to Portland was easy relatively easy- straight on highway 5. The only thing is the speed limit, which is 55-60 mph, which felt very slow.
We arrived in Kennedy school hotel, part of McMenamins chain. It's slightly further away from downtown Portland, but you wouldn't notice or even care. It's a converted elementary school, where they preserved some of the classroom features. We were in the English Wing. The school seemed to bring out the child in us. We onbviously behaved very well when we were in school originally as when we stepped out of pur room, we started giggling and trying to cause disruption- reliving a past we never had! When we walked into the restaurant, the hostess grabbed a couple of kids menu for us to colour in! We gleefully accepted and set about mission. The food was awesome, fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. The drinks were pretty great too.
